The Department Store
Refurbishment of The Department Store
Ferndale Road, Brixton
As part of the package of works in Ferndale Road, Bulmer Brick cutting secured the order for the alterations to the top floor of the building adjacent the Fire Station. Again Exescodo Products Ltd supplied the stonework with Exescodo Design Ltd producing the drawings.
Prior to the alterations the picture above shows the end bay of the third floor of the building. The balustrade and handrail were to be removed from the parapet roof with new horizontal bands of stone string and dentilled cornice to extend across the new facade. A new floor level to be added above as part of the refurbishment works, all as detailed by Squire & Partners Architects.

Existing datum levels for the stone banding and cornice were advised and site templates forwarded which profiled the existing sections of the stonework.
New window openings were set out in brick bond centred upon the existing window openings below, each with a new central hooded keystone.
The stonework supplied was Natural Portland Stone – Jordans Basebed.
Completed in 2017 the Department Store building is adjacent to the Ferndale Road Fire Station site, details of the refurbishment works to that building can be seen on the homepage of this website.
